Today: A Conversation on Gaza’s Orphans and the Work of Taawon
Dear friends,
I wanted to invite you to a conversation I’ll be moderating today, Thursday, September 25, that addresses one of the most urgent and painful consequences of Israel’s ongoing war on Gaza: the growing number of children who have lost one or both of their parents.
The webinar is hosted by the Institute for Palestine Studies – USA, and will feature Dr. Tareq Emtairah, the new Director General of Taawon, one of the most important Palestinian organizations working to support orphans through a long-term, holistic approach.

Why This Conversation Matters
Since October 2023, tens of thousands of children in Gaza have lost one or both parents. This staggering and heartbreaking toll is part of the wider attempt to erase Palestinian life in Gaza. But alongside the violence, there are also efforts to protect and preserve what remains—and to invest in a future for these children.
Taawon has launched the Noor Gaza Orphan Care Program, the largest orphan-focused campaign in its history. The program aims to provide integrated support—covering education, healthcare, mental health, protection, and social welfare—to 20,000 children, with the goal of accompanying them until the age of 18.
In today’s webinar, we’ll explore:
• The scale and urgency of the orphan crisis in Gaza
• The philosophy and design of Taawon’s approach
• The challenges of delivering care under occupation and war
• What solidarity and global responsibility can look like
This is not just about aid. It’s about dignity, future, and justice.
I hope you’ll join us.
In solidarity,
Jehad
